Nikon has introduced the Z5IIC, a more affordable and casual full-frame camera priced at $1,399.95 for the body alone. This new model, arriving in stores by mid-October 2026, omits the viewfinder and a second card slot from the Z5II to create a compact tool aimed at smartphone users stepping up to serious photography.

The Z5IIC introduces significant changes from the Z5II, including a new mode dial with scene modes and a single SD card slot, while maintaining a compact, casual design. Weighing 538 grams, it is notably lighter than the 620-gram Z5II. Composing images is done entirely via the large 3.2-inch vari-angle screen at the back, which aids vlogging and versatile shooting angles. This results in a flatter profile that saves bag space, though screen composition may be harder in bright sunlight. The top plate includes a Scene Mode setting, a first for a Nikon full-frame camera, alongside two user settings (U1 and U2). The rear lacks a joystick, and the design is streamlined for everyday use with fewer settings to adjust. Users who prefer traditional eye-level shooting will miss the viewfinder experience.

Performance and Capabilities

The camera delivers high-speed shooting, advanced video features, and enhanced autofocus with fish detection, targeting everyday usability. It uses a 24.5-megapixel full-frame BSI CMOS sensor paired with an EXPEED 7 processor. The in-body image stabilization is rated for up to 7.5 stops of correction at the center of the frame. It shoots continuously at up to 14 frames per second and has a special pre-release capture mode for up to 30 JPEGs per second, saving images from up to one second before the shutter is fully pressed.

The autofocus system recognizes ten subject types, including a dedicated fish detection mode, an upgrade for shooting inside aquariums. Mike noted, "The Nikon Z5IIC is also the first Nikon camera to add fish to the AF’s subject detection." The camera includes fifteen scene modes such as portrait, pets, food, and night landscape.

Video and Creative Features

For video, the Z5IIC records in 4K at up to 60 frames per second, using an APS-C crop at the highest frame rate, and Full HD at up to 120 fps. It supports professional formats including H.265 10-bit color, N-Log profiles, and 12-bit N-RAW recording to its single UHS-II SD card slot. A recording light on the front indicates filming, and a dedicated product video mode aids close-object focus. Creative tools include a Film Grain function for photos and videos, a dedicated Picture Control button, and support for Imaging Recipes from Nikon and other creators via the Nikon Imaging Cloud.

Pricing and Availability

The Nikon Z5IIC is positioned as a bridge for casual users. Its recommended retail price is €1,549 for the body only in the Netherlands, with availability from October 15, 2026. In the US, the body-only price is $1,399.95, and it is also offered in a kit with the NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 lens for $1,699.95.

The camera will be available in stores by mid-October 2026, with the silver variant featuring a two-toned design and red stripe. Mike said, "I’ve yet to see the camera in person, but from the promotional imagery, the silver variant really does look rather fetching."
