Award-winning wildlife photographer Jordan Banks is releasing a new book of polar photography titled 'N80 to S78.' From the remote wilderness of the High Arctic to the vast landscapes of Antarctica, the lens of esteemed wildlife pro Jordan Banks has captured it all. The self-published volume documents a journey from the High Arctic to Antarctica, capturing extreme landscapes and wildlife.
In his new book, N80 to S78, we're taken through a world shaped by ice, wind, ocean and extraordinary light. Jordan Banks conceived the project to answer a simple question: what happens when you travel from one end of the planet to the other, photographing the places where land, ice, ocean, and life exist at their most extreme. A simple question yet, its execution anything but. His ambition was to connect the two poles, presenting the Arctic and Antarctic as two ends of a single planetary story rather than as separate destinations.
The Photographic Journey
The book's imagery moves from north to south, encompassing the frozen shores of Baffin Bay, dramatic landscapes of Canada and Greenland, the immense solitude of the Ross Sea, and lesser-known areas of the Antarctic continent. Whether the frozen shores of Baffin Bay or the dramatic landscapes of Canada and Greenland, we move from north to south and includes a dramatic look at the immense solitude of the Ross Sea and the lesser-known areas of the continent.
This is a collection which includes nature and landscape imagery, but as a whole it's about so much more than that. Polar bears, penguins, whales and seals share the pages with glaciers, icebergs, mountains and seas to create a stunningly beautiful portrait of two environments that are as gorgeous as they are fragile.
Beyond nature and landscapes, the book also includes photographs of remote communities who call these regions home. Flicking through the pages of the book, you'll encounter so many beautiful photos you'll be enthralled on every page. I love the photos of polar bears and penguins (who doesn't), but I was particularly drawn to those of remote communities who call these regions home. Who chooses to live and stay here, while traces of exploration and abandoned shelters are somewhat ethereal, too.
