OM System has launched the OM SYSTEM PEN, a new compact mirrorless camera designed for everyday use. The camera features a 20.37MP Four Thirds sensor, in-body image stabilization, and, for the first time in the PEN series, dust- and splashproof performance when paired with a weather-sealed lens.

According to the company, the PEN combines a rangefinder-style design with modern technology to serve as a lightweight companion for travel and visual storytelling. The camera is powered by the TruePic IX image processor. OM System states the camera is built to be taken everywhere without worry, thanks to its weather-sealing and relatively small size.

Design and Handling

The camera is designed for one-handed operation, with important controls, buttons, and dials positioned for the right hand. It features an integrated electronic viewfinder for a more immersive shooting experience and a vari-angle touchscreen. A dedicated COLOR/MONO switch provides quick access to creative color and monochrome profile control modes, which allow for film-inspired looks.

OM System has also introduced a new weather-sealed 14-42mm kit lens to pair with the camera. The company claims this combination makes the PEN "the most affordable weather-sealed mirrorless camera" and represents impressive value.

Features for Photographers

The camera includes a vast array of advanced photo modes alongside easy auto and scene modes. It offers face, eye, and new cat and dog eye-detection autofocus. The source notes that the animal eye detection "works really well, making sure that the focus is on the eye of the animal."

Using the Micro Four Thirds lens mount provides access to a wide selection of existing lenses. Other features include a built-in microphone socket and OM System's computational photography capabilities. The camera's IPX1 rating offers reliability in changing weather conditions.

Building on a heritage dating to 1959, this is the first PEN series camera launched under the OM SYSTEM brand since the company became independent. The announcement was made by OM Digital Solutions Corporation from Hamburg on September 9, 2026.
